Swedish Meatballs (German Style)

Ingredients

6 slices bread, toasted
2/3 cup milk
1/2 lb. ground pork
3 1/2 lbs. ground meat
4 eggs
2 onions finely chopped
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup butter


Directions

Soak toast in milk, draining off any excess.

Combine toast with remaining ingredients, except butter. Mix well.

Shape mixture into small balls not more than 1 inch in diameter, dusting hands with flour while shaping.

Preheat skillet. Add butter, melt, fry meatballs slowly, turning when browned (do not overcrowd)

Remove when browned, adding more butter if necessary. Brown remaining meatballs.

When all are browned, place back into skillet and add 1 1/2 cups water. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes.
